Why Your Business Needs Email Marketing

Email Marketing
Starting Your List

Email marketing is my absolute favorite way to stay connected with my community and promote my business.

When I started my very first business as a freelance makeup artist, I was great at doing makeup and giving my clients a top notch experience.

But once they left my chair, that was it.

I had no way to stay connected with them and keep them informed about my business. Or make offers to get them in my chair again.

All the work I’d done to get the perfect clients went down the drain because I didn't continue to build a relationship with them. This put my business in jeopardy.

When I started my second business, I implemented email marketing from the jump.

Before I sold one single product, I was able to build a community around my brand through email marketing.

I was able to generate interest around my products and once I launched I was able to send one email and see the sales start to roll in.

Now, what exactly is email marketing? Simply put, email marketing is communicating with your audience about your business via email.

And that’s a good answer but here’s my definition:

Email marketing is the best and most reliable way to stay connected with your community regarding your business.

Many people think that email marketing is just about promoting sales and sending discounts, but it’s much more than that!

Using email marketing you can

There are so many ways to use email marketing all of which help you to build relationships with your audience, grow your community and ultimately make money.

Here's a question that I want you to seriously consider as we move forward:

“If social media went away today, would you be able to connect with your past, current and future customers consistently?“

Simply put, email marketing should be on your radar and here are 3 reasons why:

Reason #1: The number of email marketing users is expected to grow exponentially

It is estimated that 4.3 billion people will be using email by 2023. So many people are already using email, in their personal and professional lives, as consumers and business owners alike. And here’s why

Reason Two: Most small businesses use email marketing to get new customers and keep old customers.

This is what I was missing in my very first business. I worked so hard to gain new customers, but I didn't have a way to make sure my clients made it to my chair again. This is important because most businesses, big and small, thrive off of repeat customers.

Think about your favorite hair conditioner. Maybe its the way it smells, or the way it makes your hair feel, or because its from a brand that you love. It's your favorite for a reason. When you’re out of it, you make a point to put it on your shopping list, or you’ll make a special trip to the store just to replace it. You're a repeat customer.

From a business owners’ standpoint, you can use email marketing to remind customers that it's time to re-up on a product or service they've purchased, introduce a new way to use a product or (and this is a customer favorite) send them a discount code to use on their next purchase. Nearly 60% of consumers say that marketing emails influence their purchasing decisions. And every time you contact your subscriber with valuable information or an incentive, you keep your brand at the forefront of their minds.

Reason Three: Most importantly, you own your email list.

Remember the question I posed at the beginning of this article? “If social media went away today, would you be able to connect with your past current and future customers consistently?”

You are probably killing it on social media! And that’s great! Social media has changed the marketing world drastically. Giving consumers the ability to connect with brands in a way that just wasn’t possible before.

But here’s the caveat: We don’t own our social media profiles.

If Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok, Twitter, Youtube or Pinterest shut down today, how would you connect with all of the followers you’ve worked so hard to gain?

If your account is deactivated, due to no fault of your own, how would you continue to be consistent in getting new customers and staying in touch with your customers.

When you use email marketing in your business, you don’t have to worry about your account being shut down unexpectedly and losing contact with your subscribers. Emails are secure and reliable.

Not only that, social media can be quite restricting in the type of content that we’re able to publish as well as the type of interactions we’re able to have with our audiences.

With email marketing, you’re able to show off your personality, your business values and you have virtually unlimited space to do so!

And this is the part I appreciate the most: When I send an email I don't have to worry about if it made it to my subscribers, unlike with social media particularly instagram,

On social media, there's a good chance that if your followers aren't looking for you, your post won't show up on their feed.

Here’s the point: You should be using email marketing, if for no other reason but especially because you own it.

Once you have someone’s email address, it can't be taken from you.

And owning your list gives you the room to show up confidently and in the way you need to in order to build a strong community that is based on your brand values instead of likes and comments, to generate revenue consistently.
